About Us

The Fund Our Communities, Reduce Military Spending 25% campaign began in the fall of 2008, in eastern Massachusetts.
We work in cooperation with Mass Peace Action; we are part of the statewide Fund Our Communities, Reduce Military Spending 25% network
Nationally, we are a member group of the New Priorities Network.. The '25%' campaign in eastern Massachusetts, as a whole, consists of the Boston Coalition to Fund Our Communities/Cut Military Spending 25%, led by organizations of color, and this group..

Military spending is bankrupting our country and draining the lifeblood of our communities. We need to change our priorities. As Martin Luther King said, “A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

Total military spending is at least $1 trillion a year. Massachusetts’ share of a 25% cut would be $5 billion!

Community and peace groups in eastern Massachusetts are organizing a campaign to fund jobs and community needs by cutting total military spending 25%.

Our goal is to move beyond the peace movement and mobilize at the community level, particularly with those hardest hit by joblessness and service cuts. Without people of color and working-class people leading the effort, “the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered,” to borrow a statement and a strategy from Dr. King.  Overall, we must win broad support from the majority of U.S. citizens who are suffering from the current war economy.  That will be needed to overpower the “defense” lobby and the national mindset that the US must be the #1 power in the world and that waging war makes us more secure.

The '25%' campaign has expanded also to other states:
